Hi, I’m Rikke

Meet The Borderless Bookworm

Books and stories have always been my happy place. People close to me will tell you, that I am usually found with my nose in a book — or with an audiobook playing in my headphones. This blog is my little corner to share an ambitious literary journey: I want to read a book from every country in the world.

I invite you to follow along with me here, or connect with me on Facebook, instagram and Pinterest:

Why read the world?

This idea started more than a decade ago when I discovered Ann Morgan’s A Year of Reading the World. Inspired, I began my own version then, aiming for 100 countries. But life intervened, and the project was shelved (pun intended). Quite recently, when a British friend asked for Danish book recommendations, my passion for global literature reignited — and here we are.

If you’d like to learn more about the reasons behind this project, check out my post:

How this will work

I’m approaching this endeavour one region at a time, diving deep into its stories, cultures, and history. Each stop on the map will include curated book lists and my personal review of the one title I pick to read. No heavy academic critiques here, just my own personal thoughts and reactions to the books. I am not a literary critic. I just really like to read.

This is a huge undertaking, so I’ve created a set of flexible rules for myself, to keep things somewhat organized. You can explore them in detail here:

What you will find here

This is my passion project, but it is not just about my reading journey. I hope to give you inspiration to start your own! Whether you follow my map or a completely different route, this is a space for discovering new stories that open up the world. Here is what you can expect:

  • Curated Book lists: A list of book recommendations from every country in the world
  • Book reviews: Casual, personal reviews of the books I read
  • Detours and Layovers: Deep dives into regions, histories, authors behind the stories, book awards or whatever else I find interesting at any given time.

Join the adventure!

Are you ready to take off? You can follow me here on the blog or connect with me on social media. And you are always welcome to send me a message if you have book recommendations, I cannot miss.
